Lauren and Garratt’s wedding was an extra special one, because it meant that we would be up to ring in the new year for the first time since Kristen was born. Like every parent experiences, sleep becomes a rare, treasured commodity in the household once you have kids 🙂
Because their wedding was in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Lauren and her bridesmaids, and Garratt and his groomsmen stayed the night before New Year’s Eve in separate B&Bs. Garratt’s was on top of an old Irish pub – talk about convenience when celebrating with your guys the night before your wedding! These two got married at the Old Court House, which has been converted to special events venue in the winter, and a theatre for the Shaw festival throughout the rest of the year. Essentially a blank canvas, Lauren and Garratt had free reign in terms of décor. Their ‘Hollywood glam’ theme was loud and clear through all the little details – Garratt’s hat and cane, the colours black and gold everywhere, stringed bulbs, champagne table, sparklers, even feather place cards…what especially stuck out to me was the family tree. They had a tree set-up and hung pictures of their families which dated back almost 2 centuries! I don’t think I can even find a photo of anyone a generation older than my grandmother, so capturing that was family history to me was incredible.
No new year’s eve party would be complete without lots of friends & family, dancing, noise makers, pop out streamers, and even a specially made ball (courtesy of Lauren’s dad) to watch drop for the countdown at midnight. It was an amazing way to kick off the new year…happy 2016!
